Community-contributed content

Photographs, species identifications, locations, captions and comments on BirdingSite are contributed by members, not verified by us before they are published. While the community actively corrects mistakes through the species ID flagging system, we cannot guarantee that any identification, date or location shown on the site is accurate.

AI-assisted suggestions

The optional species suggestion feature uses an AI model to guess at a species from a photograph. It is a starting point for the member uploading, nothing more — every suggestion must be confirmed by a person, and the AI can be wrong, particularly for similar-looking species or a poor-quality photograph.

Not a field guide

This site is a community archive, not a scientific record or a substitute for a proper field guide. Please do not rely on it alone to identify a bird in the field, especially where correct identification matters for safety or conservation.

Sighting locations

Locations shown on the site are as accurate as the member who uploaded the photograph made them. A place name is sometimes approximate, and — for a species or location marked sensitive — only the district and state are ever shown, deliberately, to protect the bird. Do not treat any location on this site as an exact coordinate to visit.

Tours and operators

Tour operators and their listings are self-managed by the operator. BirdingSite does not vet, endorse or guarantee any tour operator, itinerary or booking arrangement made through information found on this site. Any arrangement you make with an operator is between you and them.

Ethics in the field

A photograph appearing on this site does not mean the site endorses how it was taken. We ask every member to follow our community guidelines and remove entries that clearly break them, but we cannot independently verify the conditions under which every photograph was taken.

External links and services

The site links to and uses third-party services (including Google, for sign-in, and OpenStreetMap, for place names) that we do not control. We are not responsible for the content, accuracy or availability of those services.
